Society Background.
At the 2012 Kilmore GAA AGM a motion was passed asking that the club form a Golf Society. Subsequent to that one outing was held to test the level of interest. Following this it was agreed to affiliate the society annually.

First Golf Society outing of 2015 takes place on Saturday the 21st of March 2015. This will take place in Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh with the first group out at 12pm. Fee is €45 and includes tea/coffee on arrival, golf and dinner. Anyone going contact Gary Vesey 0868986340.

New Forest Outing.
The new Forest outing was a very enjoyable occasion apart from a tunderstorm that passed close by. The Gents winner was Paddy Dillon, 2nd Jimmy Connellan, 3rd andy Connellan, 4th Pat King, 5th Jamie Sharkey, 6th P J Sharkey. Ladies winner Teresa Kenoy.
The draw for our annual matchplay event was postponed until our next outing in Glasson on July 4th.
Next Outing
Bookings are now invited for our New Forest outing on Saturday June 7th. Tee times will be texted to members on Thursday June 5th. Cost €40 inc Golf and Dinner.

 P J Sharkey Captains Roscommon to Success
Society member and sponsor of our Match play competitions, P J Sharkey, had the honour of captaining Roscommon Golfers to success over Leitrim in the annual Sam Beag competition played in Carrick on Shannon Golf Club on Sunday Sept 29th. Roscommon romped to victory over their arch rivals by a whopping 50pts.
9 other members of our Society were members of the successful Roscommon team; Alan Ffrench, Pat King, Andy Connellan, Gary Vesey, Harry Reynolds, Olivia Reynolds, Sheila Carney, Teresa Kenoy, Tommie Kenoy.
This result puts Roscommon ahead 3 wins to 2 over the five years of the competition.

Golfer of the Year.
The Society will have a Golfer of the Year competition. Outing winners will get 12 points, runner up 10 points, 3rd 8 points, 4th 6 points, Nearest pin 8 points, Long Drive 8pts.
In the match play G.O.Y. points will be awarded as follows; winner 12, r-up 10, semi finalists 8 each, Q.finalists 6 each.

This table reflects results in Carrick, Slieve Russell, Glasson and Strandhill plus current standing in Match Play. the only outstanding results now are the final matchplay games.
 
It's all down to Strandhill now with Adrian Beirne having the advantage of extra points if he wins the match play. But points are also available for the first four places in Strandhill as well as for nearest the pin and the long drive. That means we have at least six realistic contenders.
 

Kilmore GAA Golf Society

Rules and Regulations

1.      The Society shall conform with the Rules of Golf.

2.      The Society shall affiliate annually to GUI and shall abide by its rules and regulations.

3.      The Annual Membership fee shall be €20 for a full playing member and €5 for a non playing member.

4.      The Society Committee shall be; the Captain, Vice Capt, GAA Club Chairman, GAA Club Treasurer.

5.      The GAA Club Treasurer shall be responsible for the Societies finances and shall present a report to the Societies AGM

6.      The outgoing Capt shall elect the incoming Capt annually. The captain shall be exempt membership fee for his/her year in office.

7.      There shall be annual Gents and Ladies Match play competitions among members

which shall be played in Carrick on Shannon course.The gent’s competition shall be played off the white tees.

8.      A draw shall be made for these competitions and dates for the playing of each round will be set. Where a match is not played within the specified dates and neither party concedes, the two players names shall be put in a hat and the name drawn shall advance to the next round. Where a match is fixed and one party fails to turn up, without valid excuse, the other party will be awarded the match. 

9.      A Golfer of the Year shall be awarded annually. Outing winners will get 12 points, runner up 10 pts, 3rd 8 points, 4th 6 pts.

10.  The Captain will choose the course for his/her outing.

11.  The GAA Club Chairperson will choose the course for his/her outing.

12.  The Society Committee will choose courses for other outings.

13.  An Annual General Meeting shall be held each year. It may amend these rules by way of proposal from the floor and shall review activities for the year past and plan for the year ahead.

14.  A social event will be held each year on the same date as the Society AGM at which the GOY will be announced. Prizes will be presented to the GOY winner and to the winners of the Gents and Ladies match play competition.

15.  All other prizes will be presented immediately after the outing.

16.  Visitors and Beginners shall be allowed participate in Society outings but may not win the main prizes.

17.  Where a beginner or visitor attends an outing and does not have an official handicap the Society shall issue handicaps as follows; where the player is a member of another Society that Societies handicap shall apply. Where the player has no handicap a gent shall play off 24 and a lady off 28.

18.  Outing winners shall be deducted 1.5 shots.

19.Where appropriate there shall be a special Visitors Prize and a special Beginners Prize.

Breakfast was sponsored by the Gathering Committee and the event proved a great launch for our Gathering Weekend.
Our next event will be an Insomniacs Golf outing in Carrick on Shannon Golf Club held in conjunction with the Aughrim/Kilmore Gathering Committee. This golf game will be the first event in the parish's Gathering weekend June 14th/15th/16th. We thank the Aughrim/Kilmore Gathering Committee for joining us in this outing and for part sponsoring the event. Our thanks also to Carrick on Shannon Golf Club for their co operation.

Tee time will be 6am, assembly at the golf club 5.45am and those wishing to participate must pre book. The golf will be on a shotgun start and play will be mainly in 3 balls but a small number of 2 balls may be needed to accomodate the number of players taking part. The golf will be followed by breakfast and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse. Bring the rain gear because its promised to get wet later in the day.

There has been a 71% response to our circular about the future of the Society. The following are the conclusions.

1. The Society should affiliate to GUI on a permanent basis.

Update 22/2/2013; happily the level of response to our circular has improved considerably since the last post - we now have 9 responses. Each response so far wants to Society to continue. To those who have not yet responded please do so asap - the final date for responding is now just 3 days away.
Earlier Updates.
We issued circulars to our members last month regarding the future of our Society and have been very disappointed with the response. Only 4 have been returned to date. Unless this improves substantially in the immediate future the society will not be registered with GUI for 2013 and will cease to exist. The FINAL date for return of the circulars has now been set for Saturday February 23rd.

Outing Cancelled.Our Strandhill outing was cancelled due to a severe weather alert from Met Eireann who forecast winds of up to 120 klm on the west coast and advised people not to venture out unless the trip was urgent..
Our Next Outing. Our next outing will take place at Strandhill Golf CLub on Friday December 30th at 11am. It has been scheduled during the Christmas period in order to accomodate current and former GAA club members and parishioners living away from home who might be home for Christmas. Bookings will be taken from Dec 17th.

Society Structure.  
The club has decided that the Societies' funds will be handled at all times by the Club Treasurer. After that it will be up to members to decide what officers the society should have, if an annual meeting should be held, how many events per annum should be organised and what competitions should be held. Once the membership has been established a first general meeting will be held to make those decisions. For 2012 Gary Vesey, Club Treasurer, Alan Ffrench, Club Secretary, Tommie Kenoy and Teresa Kenoy will organise events.

The Society was registered with the GUI on August 29th 2012. Society Rules available to members on request.

Our 1st Outing
12 players played in our first outing in the Slieve Russell Golf Club on Saturday September 29th 2012. The results were as follows; Winner Noel Sharkey 33 pts, 2nd Tommie Kenoy 32 (17 back 9), 3rd Jimmy Connellan 32, Nearest Pin Harry Reynolds, Birdie/Eagle Competition Jim King, Best Beginner Olivia Reynolds. We were delighted to have the Captain and Lady Captain of Carrick on Shannon Golf Club, Jim King and Mary King among our players.
It was agreed that our next outing will take place in Enniscrone Golf Club on the weekend of December 28th/29th.Full details will be notified later.
