Kilmore GAA Club Notes 19th February 2018

O Gara Cup

Our O Gara cup team got off to a disappointing start to the league campaign when we were defeated at home on Sunday last by Tulsk. A poor first half display left us with a lot to do in the second half and Tulsk ended up winning by 2-9 to 0-8. Our next league game is away to Fuerty on Sunday the 11th of March 2018 at 2pm. 


Underage 

Well done to our U-16 team of Kilmore/Shannon Gaels who drew with Clann na nGael in the 1st round of the league on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-13. This was a great performance by the team. Our scorers were as follows P Cryan 1-6, R Gannon 1-1, C McKiernan 0-1, E Corcoran 0-1 and H Molloy 0-1. Our minor team of Kilmore/Shannon Gaels begin their league campaign this Sunday at 11am in Kilmore against Roscommon Gaels. 


Membership 
Our 2018 membership is now due for renewal. Player adult membership costs €50 and students cost €30 with juvenile membership costing €25 and social membership costing €30. This membership can be paid to Gerard Fitzmaurice. We are soon hoping to launch our new membership packages which will include entry into each 50/50 draw, entry into our annual draw, an exclusive Kilmore GAA jacket and membership. Details will be announced soon of these new packages.

Other News
Our 50/50 draw takes place this Sunday night at 10pm in the Silver eel and Pamela McGaurans team are on selling duty. Envelopes are on sale through out the parish at €2 each or 3 for €5.

O Gara Cup
Our Senior team begin their O Gara cup campaign this Sunday morning in Kilmore at 11.30am when we host Tulsk in the 1st round of the league. We would encourage everyone to come out and support the team. 

Underage 
Our minor game due to be played last weekend was postponed due to the passing of Paddy Phelan. Our U-16 team of Kilmore/Shannon Gaels start their campaign this weekend on Sunday morning when we travel to Johnstown to take on Clann na nGael at 11am.  

Membership

Kilmore GAA extends its sympathy to Hillary Phelan and the Phelan family on the recent death of Paddy Phelan, Cortober. The club thanks Carmelita caslin and Gerard Fitzmaurice who done stewarding at the Roscommon V Down match on Sunday last.

Ladies Football
Ladies training takes place this Friday night the 2nd of February at 7.30pm. Anyone interested in playing ladies football this year is asked to come along on the evening. A meeting of Kilmore GAA ladies club will take place at 7pm this Friday evening in the Clubrooms. All members and parents are requested to attend.

Well done to Clare Fitzmaurice who won our 50/50 jackpot of €461. Our €25 winners were Jack Sharkey, Mickey & Kathleen Dorr, Pat Coffey and Denny Lynch. Well done to Clare Connellan and her team of sellers. Next on selling duty is Mervyn Foleys team. The club congratulates Michael Glaveys on their win at the weekend and we wish them the best of luck this Saturday in the All Ireland final.

At our club meeting on Wednesday night last Michael McGuire took up the role of Secretary of the club and Joe Gilfillan became joint president of the club. We congratulate both men and thank them for taking up the roles. Our 50/50 draw takes place on this Sunday night in the Kilmore Inn at 10pm and Clare Connellans team are on selling duty. Envelopes cost just €2 or 3 for €5 and are on sale throughout the parish. Kilmore GAA are required to provide a minimum of 6 stewards for the Roscommon V Meath game this Sunday in Hyde Park. Stewards will need to be in the Hyde Centre at 11.15am where tea/coffee and breakfast roll will be served. Anyone who is available to steward is asked to contact Brian Carroll 087-2420896 before this Thursday as names need to be supplied to Roscommon GAA.

AGM
Our Annual General Meeting took place on Sunday evening last. the meeting began with the names of those who passed away in our parish in 2017 been read out by the Chairperson and this was followed by a minute silence. The following officers were elected President - Peter Joe Fitzmaurice, Chairperson - Gerry Tiernan, Vice-Chairperson - Brian Carroll, Secretary - Vacant, Assistant Secretary - Clare Connellan, Treasurer - Carmelita Caslin, Assistant Treasurer - Shane McElhone, PRO - Brian Carroll, Minor Committee Chairperson - Trevor Hunt, Minor Committee Secretary - Damien Devaney, Registrar - Gerry Fitzmaurice, Senior Team Manager - Gerry Garvey, Junior Team Manager - Mervyn Foley, Healthy Club Officer - Ciara McGuire, Coaching & Development Officer Donal Carroll, Insurance Officer - Teresa Kenoy, Childrens Officer - Jennifer Connellan, County Board delegates - Harry Reynolds & Tommie Kenoy, Players representative - Kevin Caslin, Irish language & Cultural officer - Michael McGuire, Ladies representative - JJ McWeeney, Rounders representative - Nicola Craughwell. The club thanks the outgoing officers Jamie Sharkey, Jennifer Connellan, Padraig Doyle and Mark Connellan. We wish all our new officers the very best of luck in their roles in 2018. 

Annual Draw
Our final draw of 2017 took place on St Stephens day. The following were the winners €1,000 Padraig Glancy, Curries, €400 Sile McGauran, €200 Dermot Foley, Hotel voucher John Hanly and €100 Brian Lavin. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets for the draw. 

Peter Joe's card game
Peter Joes annual 25 card drive took place on the 28th of December in Brackens Hillstreet. The overall winner was PJ Treacy. the other winners were Catherine Casserley, Alan Ffrench, Anthony Carroll Jnr, Derek Connellan and Tommy Redican. Thanks to Peter Joe and JJ for their work organising the card which was a great success this year. 

Scor Na Nog
Well done to our Scor Na Nog team of Coman Higgins, Jamie Craughwell, Martin O Dowd, Brandon McKiernan, Cormac McKiernan, Heather McElhone, Aoife Burke and Kate Martin who put on a brilliant display at the County Scor finals on Friday night last. Thanks to everyone who helped out in preparing the team

Well done to everyone who took part in our Ladies GAA 8k run on St Stephens day. The overall winner in the mens section was Dermot Foley and the overall winner in the ladies section was Yvonne Foley. Our 50/50 draw tickets are on sale throughout the parish and cost just €2 each or 3 for €5. The next draw takes place this Sunday night in Brackens Hillstreet. The club congratulates Padraig King and Natasha Daly who got married over the last week. The club extends its sympathy to the family of the late Paddy Mulvey of Shannon Gaels GAA club who passed away at the weekend. Anyone who wishes to be added to our text system on our club phone is asked to text their name to 0876578640. In 2018 we hope to circulate more information on parish events etc on our text system and anyone who wants something circulated is asked to contact Brian Carroll on 0872420896.

Referees Needed!
Each Club in Roscommon has been asked to recruit 1 extra referee. We have no referee in Kilmore so anyone who would be interested in becoming a referee is asked to contact Brian Carroll 0872420896 as soon as possible. 

Wedding day.
This Friday we have a big day in the parish as our Club Secretary Jamie Sharkey and Joann Finnerty get married. We wish them both a great day and a long and happy life together.

The club extends its sympathy to Carmelita Caslin and Catherine Casserley on the death of their uncle Tommy Casserley who passed away in England at the weekend. The Club also extends its sympathy to Margaret O Flynn on the death of her brother Patrick Moffat.

Junior Team

Our junior teams league campaign came to an end on Sunday last when we were defeated by St Faithleachs in the Div 5 semi final in Ballyleague. The team was as follows Anthony Carroll, Liam Caslin, Donal Carroll, Charlie Burke , Danny Collins, Willie O Flynn, Patrick doyle, Brian Connellan, Peter Sheridan, Ryan Mcloughlin, Karol Foley, Ben Donohue, Cathal Carney, Ray Caslin, Colman Earley Subs used Ray McMahon, Jim Gilchrest and Daniel Burke. Thanks to the players and management team for their efforts during the year. Thanks also to the management team of Mervyn Foley, Gerry Garvey and Brian Carroll. 


Ladies 

There was huge disappointment on Sunday last for our girls U-14 team who were defeated by 2 points by Clann na nGael in the Division 1B final. thanks to all the players, management and players for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year. 


Annual Hospice Auction
The 2017 Annual auction for Mayo/Roscommon Hospiuce takes place this Saturday night the 2nd of December in the Kilmore Inn getting underway at 10pm. All donations are welcome including gifts, vouchers, bales, work etc. Anyone who wishes to donate something is asked to contact Ann McMahon 0872744358, Brian Carroll 0872420896 or Jenny Connellan 0860779493. 

Duck race 
Our Duck race took place on Sunday last in Grange river. Thanks top everyone who purchased and sold ducks. Our winners were as follows €300 Seamus Sweeney, Croghan, €200 Sean Boland, €100 Voucher sponsored by the Landmark hotel - Daniel Carroll, €30 fuel voucher sponsored by Glancys Elphin - Karol McGauran and €20 fuel voucher sponsored by Glancys Elphin - Anthony & Ethel Carroll. Thanks to Tommie Kenoy for the use of his boat. Thanks also to dawn til dusk Strokestown for their sponsorship of the Ducks for the race.

Battery Collection
This is the last call for all used batteries that anyone wishes to donate to the club. Each battery will earn income for the club but Gerry Tiernan must be contacted on 0868393800 before this Friday if you have any batteries you want collected. 

Last Man Standing 
Well done to Katie Foley who won this years Last Man Standing competition at the weekend.

This weekends 50/50 draw will take place in The Arch Bar, Jamestown on Sunday night at 10pm. Brian Carrolls team are on selling duty. Well done to John Donohue and John Gannon who took part in the Strokestown GAA Lip Sync battle at the weekend.

Junior Team
Our Junior team had a great win on Sunday last against Boyle in the Division 5 league in Kilmore. The team has now qualified for the County league semi final. Our junior team on Sunday last was Anthony Carroll, Liam Caslin, Donal Carroll, Peter Glancy, Danny Collins, Charlie Burke, Willie O Flynn, Brian Connellan, Peter Sheridan, Paddy Doyle, Fiachra Doyle, Ben Donohue, Cathal Carney, Ray Caslin, Colman Earley Subs used Ray McMahon, Ryan McLoughlin, Shane McGowan and Karol Foley. 

Duck Race 
Our big Kilmore Duck Race takes place this Sunday at 2pm at grange river at the Silver Eel. Ducks are still on sale at €10 each from members of the executive.

A great weekend was had last weekend when our 1992 Junior B County champions celebrated their 25th anniversary. Well done to Gabriel Dockery who won our Footgolf Competition on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who turned out at both days of celebrations. Thanks to Tommie Kenoy for all his work in organising the weekend.

Junior team
Our junior team are scheduled to face Boyle this Sunday in Kilmore at 2pm in the final league group game.

Underage
Our U12 team lost to St Croans on Saturday in the kennan cup. Thanks to the management team of Gerald Holahan and John Craughwell and to all the players and parents. That concludes the minor board fixtures for the year .
Good luck to the Girls Minor and U14 teams next weekend in two big games .

Ladies football
Congrats to Elphin/Kilmore U18 girls who beat a really good St.Barrys team in Tarmonbarry on Sunday morning. Coming from behind at half time the girls won this super semi-final 5-15 (30) to 6-10 (28).
They play Castlerea in the County Final on this coming Saturday (18th) in St.Croans Enfield at 2pm.
On Sunday next (19th) our u14 girls play their Division 1 semi-final v Eire Og in Loughglynn at 12noon.
This is a big weekend for our Ladies. All support welcome for both teams.

1992 Junior Team Reunion
This weekend is a big weekend for our junior team of 1992 who won the County Junior B title. The weekend gets underway on Saturday with footgolf at Carrick on shannon golf club at 1pm, everyone is welcome to attend. Then on Saturday night at 8pm everyone is welcome to the Kilmore Inn where the Northern Junior final of 1992 will be shown. Refreshments will be served on the night. Then on Sunday at 5pm the celebrations will continue with a meal at 5pm in the Silver Eel followed by the showing of the 1992 County Junior final. It promises to be a great weekend of celebrations and everyone is encouraged to attend. Anyone who wants more details is asked to contact Tommie Kenny on (087) 766 9017.

Duck Race
The great Kilmore GAA Duck race will take place this Sunday in the Silver Eel. A few ducks are still available and priced at €10 and are on sale from all members of the finance Committee. The Duck race will take place this Sunday with the time to be confirmed. We have a first prize of €300 for the winning Duck owner!
