Secretary’s Report 2012.

January / February / March / April

Saturday 7th January saw the start to the year with our AGM. It was a very quiet affair with Noel Crossan being announced as the senior manager for the coming year. Sean Glancy and Claire Caslin stepped aside after three excellent years to be replaced by Gary Veasey and myself.

Our annual 25card drive took place in Brackens on 15th January, the big winners on the night were Mary Kavanaugh and PJ Tracey, as always it was a great night with a special thanks going to Peter Joe Fitzmaurice for all his work with it.

Saturday 11th February saw our American tea party in the Silver Eel. It was a huge success with about 150 people attending. Jack Sharkey was named as the senior player of the year with Cathal Carney picking up the John Glancy memorial cup as Junior player of the year. Claire Caslin received the personality of the year. A big thanks to everyone who hosted a table on the night.

The club Registration night took place on Monday 13th. It would be fair to say it was not a successful night due to a very poor attendance.

February also saw the draws for the senior Championship and the fixtures for the league being announced. Both were very interesting with a real local derby,  the Championship against Strokestown, and our league Campaign starting in Kiltoom against St Brigids.

On  Friday 2nd March our seniors travelled to Kiltoom for the first round of the league, unfortunately we met a very strong side on the night and were defeated by 3-10 to 1-5.

Saturday 24th March saw our seniors make their first home appearance of the season against Castlerea St Kevins. A good victory with a final score of 2-9 to 0-8. From the pitch it was on to Earley’s for the first 300 club draw of the year with Cathal and Mary Brady winning the €1000 top prize on the night.

On Sunday 1st of April the seniors met St Croans in Kilmore at 2 o clock. In a very tight affair Kilmore lost out by a solitary point.

Our annual table quiz took place Good Friday night in the community centre, with the winning team travelling from Castlerea on the night. A big thank you to everyone who put in a team on the night.

The last week of April turned into a big week in the league  with two games taking place in three days. First up was near neighbours Elphin on Wednesday 25th. In very testing conditions Kilmore edged it by a point, 0-6 to 0-5. To make it a very good week on the Friday evening in Kilmore it was a comprehensive 2-12 to 1-7 victory against Padraig Pearses.

On the Wednesday night we had our draw for the team sponsors for the year in Earleys, On the night the last name in the hat was The Arch Bar in Jamestown. We would like to thank everybody who took part in the draw as it was a very successful event.

On Tuesday 24th the seniors travelled to Kilbride in the league and were victorious with a final score of 2-10 to 1-7.

Saturady 11th August the juniors kicked off a big weekend of championship action with an excellent win over Shannon Gaels in the Northern Championship, outscoring them 3-11 to 0-6.

The following day it was the turn of the seniors as they took on Western Gaels in Elphin. They had an excellent win with the final score 2-9 to 0-9.

From the 13th to the 17th Claire and her band of helpers took on the daunting task of a summer camp for 4 to 12 year olds, over 60 kids attended and all had a great time. Thanks to all that made it a great week, especially Claire for all the organising.

Our final group match took place in Kilmore on Sunday 19th. It was not a day to remember as neighbours Strokestown ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-8.

On the last Sunday of August the battle changed to a relegation playoff, Thankfully Kilmore were more than up to the test  winning 3-8 to 2-3. With that the senior journey was over for 2012. A big thanks has to go to all the players as well as Noel Crossan and John Crowe for all their work over the year.

Secretary’s Report 2012.

General

In 2012 we were most successful at Under 14 with the girls winning a county final and the boys winning both the league and championship. It was a great achievement by both sets of players.         A lot of thanks has to go to Mick Feehily and Mary McGowan with the girls and to Raymond Earley with the lads.

It has taken a lot of people to keep the club functioning throughout the year, All the coaching at underage level (Boys and Girls) as well as the seniors and juniors, It has taken up a lot of time for both players and coach’s alike. Their work has been greatly appreciated.

We have needed steward’s throughout the year for different things, we have also relied heavily on people selling tickets as well as people buying the said tickets. Every venture the club has undertaken in the past year we have been very lucky in that there has always been people ready to help us out at any time.  We also have been helped greatly by the sponsorship we received throughout the year without it the task would be a lot greater. We would like to thank everybody who has helped throughout the year in anyway at all, it is all appreciated.

With that i would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2013.3

Thanking You.

Alan Ffrench.
