Kilmore GAA Club Notes 14th May 2012

Our Arch Bar sponsored senior team suffered a 1-7 to 0-9 points defeat on Saturday evening last in Kilmore to St Aidan’s. All attention now turns to our opening senior championship game against Padraig Pearses on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of May in Woodmount. Our junior team continued their good run in the northern league with a 3 point win over Castlerea in Kilmore on Sunday last. Kilmore team was Ollie Burke, Noel Reynolds, Jamie Sharkey, Liam Caslin, Paul Beirne, Joe Garvey, Mark Connellan, Donal Carroll, Cathal Carney, Mark MCEvoy, Anthony Carroll, Emmet Glancy, Jim Gilchriest, Kevin Stritch, Danny Collins. Our U-16 team play Shannon Gaels this Friday evening at 7.30pm in Croghan in the championship. Our minor team plays next Monday against St Michaels in Kilmore at 7.30pm. Our u-14 team were defeated by 3 points by Oran on Thursday last. The U-14’s next game is this Thursday the 17th at 7pm against Clann Na Gael in Kilmore. Our annual golf classic took place on Friday and Saturday last in Carrick-On-Shannon golf course. The winning men’s team on the day was Atty Hynes team and the winning ladies team was Mary Kings team. We also congratulate Gerry Callaghan who achieved a hole in one on Saturday and also won our nearest the pin competition. Alan Ffrench won our longest male drive and Oonagh Talbot won our longest ladies drive. Kilmore wish to thank everyone who was part of the organising committee for the golf classic. Thanks to Jenny Connellan and Aine Caslin for their help in organising the tent on the day and also thanks to Padraig McKeon for the use of the tent at the weekend. Thanks to everyone team who took part and also to everyone who sponsored a tee on the day. Also thanks to Chris Lowe and Carrick On Shannon golf club for their help. We also thank Carmelita & Aine Caslin & Jenny Connellan for their help with preparing food for St Aidans game and also thanks to Martin Vesey for his help preparing the pitch. Operation Transformation is now entering week 4 and weigh in takes place this Friday night at 8.30pm at the pitch. Everyone is welcome to come along. Everyone taking part will be gathering sponsorship for the club and we would ask everyone to support them. Roscommon GAA €100 tickets are still on sale. The draw has been postponed for 2 weeks. Kilmore have to reach their quota and we thank everyone who has purchased a ticket and would ask anyone who can to buy a ticket or even a half ticket. An executive meeting of Kilmore GAA takes place this Wednesday night at 10pm in the Club rooms. This weekend Roscommon begin their senior Connacht championship campaign this Sunday at 4pm in Hyde Park against Galway. We wish Jack Sharkey and the Roscommon panel the best of luck on Sunday. Match tickets will be on sale this week from the county board office in Roscommon and will also be on sale on the day of the match outside the ground. Kilmore congratulate Eleanor McWeeney on finishing 18th in a world dancing competition. Kilmore GAA extends its sympathy to Maurice & Rita Quinn on the recent death of Rita’s mother and also to the O Meara family, Carrick-On-Shannon on the recent death of Mrs O Meara.  We commiserate with all our Man U fans especially Mark Connellan, Derek Connellan, Colm Garvey, Stephen Gannon, Padraig Beirne, Chris Gannon, Joe Mc Evoy and many more on the last 5 minutes of the Man City V QPR game at the weekend!!
